With the latest updates to Windows 11 comes a new enforcement that no longer allows the type of signature that was applied to the Superpro device driver. This can be reversed via one of the following options:- If your PC has the July 2026 update on, an administrator can turn off the policy without changing…
Only 6 years after I saw the USB-DVG and decided I must have one, I have finally sorted the Asteroids cabinet out and made a wiring loom to connect the USB-DVG directly to the PCB connector (so you can still plug an original PCB in and that also works). I also fitted some new buttons…
The Kagi 13” and 19” CRT chassis (KB240162), which seems to be used in Gremlin and Nichibutsu cabinets has now been added to the monitor capacitor list page. If you need schematics for this, they can be found in the Nichibutsu Moon Shuttle manual. (available as a PDF on several sites – if you cannot…
I decided to reverse engineer a bootleg of a Century playpack, as used on their conversions for Galaxian, Scramble and Donkey Kong hardware * For what I found out see the information page in my repair log here * Each hardware variant would have a custom memory mapping IC at position 3
I just added some information about the gun sensor PCB used on Namco games such as Time Crisis and Time Crisis 2 Check it out here
It seems that Coin Op Collection have completed a Snow Bros core for MiSTer before I did. Not really surprising since I have taken ages on this one. I had suffered from one of the same problems as they did, so at least I was on the right track. For the moment I will look…
One of the users discovered a minor problem with the Fluke pod converter PCB which causes problems mainly when used on Zaccaria pinball PCBs. It seems I missed one of the tracks off from the original article that connects the INTACK signal to GND. This has been fixed on the latest PCBs, but if you…
The post office have now made adjustments to allow shipping to the USA once again. Any items now sent to the USA will have a 10% tariff surcharge added, along with a slight increase in postage (as the Royal Mail charge an extra 50 pence for paying the tariff on your behalf) At least I…
It seems that some of the multitude of changes in policy within the USA have meant that the British postal service will no longer accept packages destined for that part of the world. So, until this situation has been resolved, I can no longer send anything from the shop to the United States of America!
I have a few customers who buy several sets of PCBs to allow them to sell kits or fully assembled versions of my projects. It only seems fair that I reward them for their continued support, so in future buying 10 sets of PCBs will enable a 10% discount. If you really want to go…
Since it originally appeared in 2003 this website has been edited by a few pieces of software and hosted on many different types of hardware. It was originally created using Frontpage 2000 and hosted on the webspace I got from my ISP (Do you remember when you used to get that with your dial up…
I fondly remember playing games like Confidential Mission on my Dreamcast in the games room, displayed on a 26″ Hantarex screen that came out of a video conference room. However, with the switch of TVs and monitors to LCD / OLED etc, these old guns no longer work. After doing some browsing across several web…
From now on all of the power used to host this site is supplied by the sun. This is down to a combination solar panel / battery system installed by UPS Solar which seems to be performing well at the moment, certainly better than the info I gleaned from several websites as to how much…
One of the reasons I wanted to build a Retro Chip Tester (RCT) was because there are several adapters available that let you extend the capability of it. The one I had an immediate use for was the 2708 programming adapter. I ordered some PCBs for this, put it together and it has now been…
The Retro Chip Tester (RCT) was developed to test „old“ memory chips from the 1970s and 1980s, which are often no longer recognized by today’s programming devices. The RCT is able to identify defective memory cells very reliably. It can save the contents of ROMs, PROMs and EPROMs to a memory card. If the memory…
One of the PCBs I own had a dead SLAPSTIC, Atari’s custom protection chip used in several games of the time, which meant I just got a nice ROM error in test mode and a blank screen instead of the game. Some old 8 bit hacking and we have hopefully fixed the problem. Check out…
Since Windows 10 becomes an unsupported OS next year, I re-enabled secure boot on Windows 10 (via the BIOS settings for my motherboard) so that Windows Update would let me perform the update to windows 11. Once that had all completed, I disabled it again and my machine now boots into Windows 11 and still…
After some experimenting with layouts / shipping and generally learning to use it, the Store is now live and ready to use. I’ve only put a few PCBs on there for the moment and until the next delivery there isn’t many of those available yet. More items will appear once I have finished sorting the…
With some changes to the website planned over the coming weeks, it has become necessary to improve the security a little. So, with the assistance of an SSL certificate from Let’s Encrypt the site has now moved across to HTTPS at long last. Hopefully I have configured everything properly and it won’t end up by…
One of the members of UKVAC (Aaron) put together a piece of test gear that allows you to visually check the signals on an IC whilst the board is running normally and I picked one up earlier this year as it can do a few things that the ABI Board master cannot. Having sourced a…
The postman bought me a package today containing the updated versions of most of the PCBs from the website as well as the new ones for the MiSTer -> Gorf (and others) interface. I need to get soldering and make sure that they actually work. I think I’ll start with the multigame, not had one…
I have finished moving the remaining pages from the old Frontpage website over to WordPress and put some of the archive history back in. I did have to modify a few things to make it more ‘mobile’ friendly so all pages should be viewable on your phone. (a few require you to rotate your phone…
Macro’s arcade website finally makes it into the current century! After many years of being a Frontpage website, it is slowly being transferred across into WordPress. Not all of the pages and news have been transferred across, so expect the rest to re-appear over the coming weeks. Hopefully it will make it much easier for…
I was looking for some information on arcade monitors, specifically listings of capacitors needed for Capacitor Kits, and everything I found seemed to be in the way-back archive rather than on current sites. So duly reformatted the information that I found, started adding links to manuals and schematics, where I have them, and of course…
I heard from a user about a problem with the signed Xeltec drivers. So in case you are having the same problem :- My new PC has windows 10 installed as UEFI. Installing it that way enables secure boot by default and saves the default keys to your motherboard. Secure boot adds another layer of…
Finally finished building my new test rig! Hopefully get the rest of the test gear setup again and start fixing some boards.
